Johan Thurfjell was born in 1970 in Solna. He currently lives and works in Tullgarn, Sweden.
Johan Thurfjell is known for his lyrical and suggestive works that, in their reduced form, convey a strong narrative content, evoking sagas and fables, fears and fantasies. He often uses his own personal experiences as an aesthetic tool and the sources often originates in his home and studio in the Swedish countryside. Regardless of his choice of material or technique Thurfjell’s sculptures, paintings, video works and installations show a dexterity and pleasure in his craftsmanship.
His works are represented in numerous public collections, including the 21c Museum in Kentucky, Malmö Konstmuseum, Region Skåne, Göteborgs Konstmuseum, Göteborgs Konstmuseum, Magasin III, Region Stockholm, Moderna Museet, Statens Konstråd, Västerås Konstmuseum and Uppsala Konstmuseum.
